Welcome! We’re glad you found us here at the Pet Supply Critic! “Us” is me and my three pampered cats- Cosmo, Buddy and Blaze. Together with their antics, they are always a source of joy and amusement. And I am Jennifer, their human owner – whoops, I mean, servant. They own me, not the other way around 🙂
That’s Leo in the picture to the left with me. He is the cat of a friend’s roommate – who loves snuggles and attention.
As far as other pets I’ve had the good fortune to love and behold in my own personal menagerie has included 2 dogs, goldfish ,bettas, guppies, a long-tailed lizard, fire belly newt, 2 Robo hamsters. It’s no small feat to determine what other pets you can keep when you’ve got cats around, knowing how little critters that I thought were secondary companions, could turn into a side dish, unfortunately 🙁
So What Qualifies Me to Be a “Pet Supply Critic”?
Well, having the perfect “test subjects”, for one thing, Lol. I hope that doesn’t sound too crass? As a lifelong animal lover, I found it was only natural to want to create an online resource to share my findings on various pet products. It’s not always easy to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to things like food, bedding, litter, toys and other things. Experience is the best teacher, which has given me great insight on what to choose for my little guys, what has been enjoyable for them, what has not,so I can pass that along over to you.
Now, and an introduction to my furkids!
Buddy – Buddy is a 10 year young male yellow tabby who is very independent by nature. He’s always been cool as a cuke. We got him as a kitten from my late husband’s aunt and uncle, whose cat had had a litter (well, several litters, anyway) As a kitten he was always so rambunctious and prone to biting. My normally mild-mannered and patient husband would get upset about Buddy’s propensity to nip. And one time I was making a video on Youtube that got interrupted when the four month old little twerp tried to bite me too, I ended up leaving the video up because I thought it was funny, looking back. But in adulthood he grew out of it. Thankfully, he’s still very aloof but he does like to curl up with us sometimes. He always has his favorite hiding places, like the bathroom sink, right here. One of his quirks is that he loves it when I turn on the faucet and let the water drip and he likes to drink from that. Buddy is quiet, too, and not a very vocal cat. Except when he wants to go outside, then he howls like a dog. Lol.
Cosmo. This is Buddy’s sister. She is 9 and has a long soft coat. I’m not sure about her lineage. She could be part Himalayan, but I’m not sure. She is sweet and loves attention. She will try to get it from you by “needling” you with a single claw. And she is persistent about it. (I should say “purr” sistent, right?) As a longhaired cat she does need periodic grooming. We use a currying tool and brush which helps. She has had mats in her fur before and I had to trim it with scissors. Those of you with long-haired cats I’m sure know what I’m talking about. Cosmo loves to sit in my lap sometimes when I’m at the computer.
Blaze is a year old female Tortie. A fun fact -almost all Calico and Tortoiseshell pattern cats are female due to the X chromosome dominance. We haven’t had her as long – only since August. She was a shelter cat who passed the “friendly” test. My boyfriend spotted her right away and said we should get her because she had a good personality. So we did. The adoption fee allowed her to get the microchip and spayed. She is very lively and energetic and loves chasing toy balls through the house. She’s also what you might call a “velcro kitty” who follows e from room to room, She is just like her predecessor (keep reading…) And you probably thought all cats were so independent. It’s too funny, I have to watch out and guard some of my stuff because Blaze is a little bandit that will pick up random objects of mine with her teeth and just take off with them.
My next favorite hobby includes freshwater fish aquariums. I’ve kept bettas, goldfish, guppies, tetras and danios over the years, it’s a great hobby once you master the skills of water purity and upkeep, but watching those fish drift by underwater is the most sublime thing in the world. It makes all that legwork worthwhile. This is one of the tanks below…
Yes, I did actually write on that tank with a chalk marker (it did come off – I wouldn’t have done that otherwise!)…Create With Jennifer is another website I own.
And now, those I’ve loved and lost…Just a nice way of paying tribute to a few pets I’ve had for a short time…
This is Sputnik. He was an adorable brownish-gray tabby. Very needy and didn’t want to be left alone. Whether I was reading, writing, or cooking, there he was. I remember building an outdoor enclosure for him so he could go outside and I wouldn’t have to worry about something bad happening to him. The others didn’t seem as interested, but when Sputnik went in there Cosmo and Buddy would follow. Sadly, he only lived to be three years old. He passed on the day before New Years Eve 2019 for reasons I’ll never know.
As far as a few other types of pets….
We (my late husband and I) used to have a Chow-Spaniel mix, Latte. Sorry I don’t have a picture of her. She was my husband’s favorite dog and lived to be 13 years old. And then we had a Chiweenie (Chihuahua/dachshund mix) and for awhile, I had an actual Easter bunny (as I literally acquired him over Easter..yep, true story) He was a brown Lop-ear. Here they are in the hutch together…
I’m sure you, the reader, have a story of your own about a cherished pet. Or more than one.
And here you are too. Thank you for stopping by!
