In this post we’re look at the best bird cages for pet s of the avian variety. . Full disclosure: I don’t actually own pet birds (well, not pets, anyway, we have laying hens which is a whole different ballgame. But I do have one first cousin who has always kept birds. I liked the idea of having a parakeet or canary but I always thought I could never do that with cats prowling around since they are not a harmonious pairing *remember Sylevester and Tweety…)
However, the relative in question has owned birds and cats and the cat never treated the birds like filet mignon so I guess she was well trained. Or just a peaceful cat. She had little zebra finches and 2 parakeets alongside a white shorthair. So I guess it can be done. So I said I was working on an article about finding the best pet bird cages and sought her input. which helped in doing my research.
Edit: She now has this lovely green parrot, when I was visiting I got to pose with him , the parrot “Sugar” on my shoulder. If you are calm they will be too.
Now I will talk about this large cage…Those of you with parrots, conures, etc., and looking for a roomy new home look no further than this one I found by Yaheetech.
It’s a generous 52″ in height (including the wheels and stand combined) There is also a slightly larger version that is about 6 ft in height too to check out. It will need some assembly, and I suggest you bring a friend to help, as a lot of people had trouble with it (not all, but some, who worked alone.) With 360 degree swivel wheels, you can easily bring it into a different room when needed. The bar spacing comes in at 0.6″ so if you have smaller birds (e.g. finches) this may not be a good option as they could get their heads caught between the grid and a few unlucky owners may have had an escapee or two from a juvenile. So medium to large birds will be best suited to it. As it’s quite roomy, you’ll have plenty of room to create a playground fr your avian friends to be able to perch and flit around to their hearts content.
Better yet, if you have multiple birds, it will house them well too. There are also wooden perching rods and water bowls included. Some people said they didn’t like the bowls much as they were not as sturdy as those made with stainless steel. I feed my cats with those stainless steel bowls so I know. There is a tray that slides out on the bottom for ease during cleaning time., although some consumers didn’t think it was as well made as the cage itself. There is plenty of storage space at the bottom for all the birds accessories to be in easy reach.
One thing that could have been easier that people suggested would have made it better is the doors int eh front – they open only in the front and it’s harder to reach into the back to position or move something, unless you’re on the other side joliding part of it, not easy to do I’m sure. In addition you also get a mini wrench with the lackage to guide through assembly, although it may be better to provide your own as a few people said they stripped nuts and bolts when tightening
Pros: Cage is well made and sturdy, moveability with the wheels, lots of room for multiple birds and their accessories, toys, perches, etc., storage on bottom
Cons: Some people had trouble assembling, grid spacing may not be safe for more petite birds, , tools included for assembly are a little entry level
Highly recommended. If you have cockatiels, parrots, conures, budgies, doves (not exhaustive list, but medium to large sized in general)
If you have parakeets or finches, good idea to pass it on, or you may have to spend time retrofitting the corners as they are wider slightly, which could lead to possible trouble if they stick their head through or could pry through it.
